The Board of Directors of the Central Bank (CB) will again raise the key rate at its meeting on December 15, most participants in the consensus forecast are confident RBC. 22 out of 31 experts believe that the Central Bank will raise the rate by 100 basis points (bp) – from 15 to 16% per annum.
Another four analysts are confident that the rate will be increased by 200 bp, to 17% per annum. Two survey participants did not rule out that the rate will increase by 50 bp. up to 15.5%. Three more said that the Central Bank will leave the key rate at the same level.
If the majority’s forecast turns out to be correct, then the upcoming rate increase will be the fifth in a row. The Central Bank began increasing it in July amid accelerating inflation. On October 27, the regulator’s board of directors increased the key rate by 200 bp, to 15% per annum. Head of the Central Bank Elvira Nabiullina statedthat they may begin to reduce the rate next year, when annual inflation approaches the target of 4%.
