In the official telegram channel of director Alexander Sokurov reported about the cancellation of the screening in St. Petersburg of his 2007 film “Alexandra,” which the author personally wanted to present to the public after remastering. The film “Alexandra. Author’s edition 2023” was planned to be shown on December 12 – the day after the anniversary of the death of Galina Vishnevskaya, who played the main role in the film.

According to Sokurov, the planned show will not take place due to reasons beyond his control. The editor promised that the premiere screening of the new version would be organized “a little later and in a different place.”

The film “Alexandra” describes the events in Chechnya in the early 2000s. An elderly woman, Alexandra Nikolaevna, comes to visit her grandson, a soldier. She lives in a military town for several days, communicates with people, learns about life and customs.

How writes “Fontanka”, in the Aurora cinema, where the screening was supposed to take place, reported that there were no technical problems, and questions about the reasons for canceling the show should be asked to the city committee for culture. The publication indicates that officials did not promptly respond to journalists’ requests.

Earlier it became known about the refusal to issue a distribution certificate for Sokurov’s new film “The Fairy Tale”. The director later stated that he career is effectively over.
