Sculptor Richard Serra dies at age 85 from pneumonia

American sculptor Richard Serra, famous for his monumental compositions, died at the age of 85 at his home in Oriente from pneumonia.

How writes New York Post, Serra sculptures are installed on the grounds of Joseph Pulitzer Jr.’s country home, at the Guggenheim Museum, and in nine cities in Germany.

One of his last orders was completed in 2014 in the desert of Qatar. The East-West/West-East composition consists of four tall steel plates that span a kilometer-long stretch of desert framed by low plaster cliffs.

Several years ago, after the sculptor was diagnosed with tear duct cancer, Serra refused surgery to remove his eye so as not to jeopardize his vision and his work as an artist.
