The US sanctions will not affect the operation of the National Payment Card System (NSPK) and the national payment system Mir. This was reported in the NSPK and the Central Bank. The day before, the United States imposed sanctions against NSPK director Vladimir Komlev, but not against the payment system itself and its operator.
“The imposed sanctions will not affect the operation of the Mir payment system and other systems in Russia, the operation of which is provided by the National Payment Card System. In Russia, the Mir card, as well as other NSPK services, can continue to be used without restrictions,” the NSPK press service informed.
“Mir cards, as well as other NSPK services (resident cards, social, student and transport cards, loyalty program, and others), continue to operate in Russia as usual. Foreign partners themselves decide to open their infrastructure for accepting Mir cards,” the Central Bank also said. They added that the regulator intends to continue working on expanding the geography of accepting Mir cards.
On September 15, the United States imposed sanctions against NSPK director Vladimir Komlev. The Mir payment system, operated by NSPK, has not yet been blacklisted. Nevertheless, the US authorities have officially warned financial organizations in third countries against expanding cooperation with the payment system. At the same time, the Central Bank information Vedomosti, by 2030, plans to expand the geography of accepting Mir cards to 35 countries.
