Most freight companies have rebuilt their supply chains to stabilize their business, said Viktor Kodanev, director of education and consulting at ETP Bidzaar. According to him, half of the companies in 2022 faced delays in delivery times and an increase in the cost of logistics. He announced the results of the study at the III annual conferences on demand forecasting and operational planning in supply chains Supply & Demand Planning Conference, held with the support of Kommersant.
The study involved 244 companies with an annual turnover of 120 million rubles or more. and more than 100 billion rubles. per year, working in the areas of distribution, FMCG production, logistics services, industry, retail.
Among the main difficulties that were critical for the owners of cargo companies:
- delays in delivery times (49%),
- significant increase in the cost of logistics (47%),
- refusal of manufacturers to deliver to the Russian Federation (36%),
- difficulties in international transportation (34%),
- a significant increase in the cost of goods (32%),
- delays in production (24%),
- currency fluctuations (22%),
- obstacles to the acquisition of foreign software (17%).
Among the negative factors that affected logistics, the interviewees also named fluctuations in customer demand and overstocking last spring, unpredictable delivery dates for equipment, overstocking of products and a changed competitive field.
As the study showed, companies began to restructure their supply chains. The most popular destinations were China (42%), Turkey (16%) and India (11%). The majority of respondents stated that they are working in three or four new directions at once.
Companies are also taking steps to ensure supply stability. Speaking about emergency measures, 44% of respondents said that they have frozen irrelevant investment projects, 27% have created anti-crisis headquarters. Every second business representative took temporary measures – speeding up decision-making (56%) and purchasing excess stocks (47%). Among the main long-term measures called the strengthening of control over suppliers and orders, the intensification of risk management and personnel strengthening of procurement and logistics. 67% of companies said they had solved the bulk of the supply chain restructuring issues, 13% had completely rebuilt the process, and 15% were looking for a way out of the situation.
Against the backdrop of sanctions, Russian importers and exporters, and with them logisticians, began to discover the Middle East. Trade with countries such as Iran, the UAE and Qatar increased by tens of percent in 2022. Both suppliers of goods and experts note the prospects of the region, but warn that it will take years to fine-tune interaction with it.
