Alibaba Group President Michael Evans declared at the Viva Tech conference in Paris that the online retailer is going to launch a localized version of its Tmall marketplace in Europe. According to him, now the company has already launched a pilot project in Spain, later the service will be rolled out in other countries.

According to experts, this is a major change in Alibaba’s international trade strategy. Previously, the company was represented in Europe by the AliExpress platform, intended mainly for the purchase of goods from China. Tmall will ship directly to Europe. “We will serve local brands and local consumers in the local market,” Evans said.

In March Alibaba Group announced, which will be divided into six companies and become a holding company. Tmall, along with another marketplace, Taobao, will be part of the Taobao Tmall Commerce Group. The Global Digital Commerce Group specializing in global trade will operate separately.
