Alfa-Bank’s loan portfolio in Chinese currency exceeds 20 billion yuan, said Oleg Sysuev, chairman of the bank’s board of directors. The credit institution began lending in yuan in 2022.
“In 2022, a third of the issued yuan loans in Russia fell on Alfa-Bank, which is almost 18 billion yuan. Our current loan portfolio in Chinese currency exceeds 20 billion yuan,” he said in an interview with RIA Novosti on the sidelines of SPIEF.
According to him, the bank considers the yuan a currency intended for trading operations. “In Russia, due to the almost zero surplus of the balance of payments against the yuan, there is not so much Chinese currency,” Mr. Sysuev added.
