Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova reported that the management of the State Academic Maly Theater decided to appoint Alexei Dubrovsky as chief director. According to Ms. Lyubimova, Alexey Dubrovsky will be able to preserve the unique traditions of the theater in his new position.
“A talented actor, director, teacher at the Shchepkinsky School, Alexey Vladimirovich, has vast experience working at the Maly Theater,” wrote Olga Lyubimova in her Telegram channel.
Alexey Dubrovsky graduated from the Higher Theater School named after. M. S. Shchepkin, after which he served in the troupe of the Moscow Youth Theater until 2013. In 2013, he joined the Maly Theater troupe. Since 2007, he began to try himself as a stage director, among his works at the Maly Theater are “The Tale of How One Man Fed Two Generals,” “Heart of a Dog,” “Dead Souls” and others.
At the Maly Theater, Mr. Dubrovsky previously held the position of deputy artistic director for creative issues. On January 11, the artistic director of the Maly Theater, 88-year-old Yuri Solomin, died in the hospital after suffering a stroke. He directed the theater for 35 years. Condolences over his death were expressed by President Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Patriarch Kirill, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova.
