The actor and director, People’s Artist of Russia, President of the Moscow Academic Satire Theater Alexander Shirvindt died in Moscow. He was 89 years old.
“Misha, the son of Alexander Anatolyevich, called me; he died in the hospital half an hour ago. I don’t know yet how and what we will do,” Sergei Gazarov, artistic director of the Satire Theater and the Armen Dzhigarkhanyan Theater, told TASS.
Alexander Shirvindt was born on July 19, 1934 in Moscow. In 1956 he graduated with honors from the Theater School. B.V. Shchukina. In 2000-2021 he was the artistic director of the Moscow Academic Theater of Satire, and in November 2021 he was appointed its president. Mr. Shirvindt also collaborated with the Theater. Lenin Komsomol and the Moscow Drama Theater on Malaya Bronnaya. As a director and screenwriter, he participated in the creation of more than 30 performances and productions.
Alexander Shirvindt is a full holder of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland. He was also awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples, and has the titles of “Honored Artist of the RSFSR” and “People’s Artist of the RSFSR”.
