A grand jury in the US state of New Mexico has confirmed charges against actor Alec Baldwin for the manslaughter of cameraman Galina Hutchins, reports Reuters. Such charges have already been brought against him, but they were withdrawn in April 2023 due to insufficient evidence.
In October 2021, while filming the film Rust, Mr. Baldwin fired a firearm that turned out to be loaded with live ammunition. Ms. Hutchins was injured and died in hospital. The new charge is related to the receipt of an expert report. Experts believe the actor had to pull the trigger to fire the shot. The actor himself claims that he cocked the hammer, but did not pull the trigger.
Assistant director David Halls, who gave Alec Baldwin a gun with live ammunition, was sentenced to a suspended sentence and a fine of $500 thousand. Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who was responsible for the weapons on the set, faces up to 18 months in prison.
