A bottle of premium whiskey, bingo and food – corporate gifts become more practical. The owners and managers of the companies told Kommersant FM about this. Among the most popular items in 2023 are alcohol, tea sets and merch. Many market players still prefer to distribute branded T-shirts, hoodies and stationery.

Kommersant FM found out what gifts top managers prefer and what they do with them:

Co-founder of Bitrix24 Sergey Ryzhikov: “Alcohol is used well; it can be given to colleagues. Just yesterday I had a one-on-one meeting with an employee, and I gave him a 12-year-old Macallan because I don’t drink. And he, it turns out, appreciated it. Sometimes all sorts of electronic devices take root, but their life cycle is very short. I can’t say that I’m indignant about this and I’m somehow upset, but when they give blankets, it depresses me.”

General Director of the Elkat plant Maxim Tretyakov: “Probably 80% of gifts are routine and useless. They often present alcohol and sweets – something that I myself try not to give. According to my observations, the size of the company is related to the quality of the gift – not because of the high cost, but because of the professional approach. In large corporations there is a staff member who is interested in advance, selects, and coordinates gifts with management.”

Director and partner of the IT-Reserve company Pavel Myasoedov: “Fortunately, corporate gifts have recently become more practical or there are fewer of them in packages, but the benefit and value are higher. Or I’ve been lucky in the last two years. Mostly they give alcohol and something with a hint of Russian traditions – lotto, sets of teas. I began to save such gifts, and I periodically give away strong alcohol. It’s still more useful than some kind of notepad or pen.”

Owner of the Internet search company Igor Bederov: “I keep my notebooks, pens, calendars. Sweatshirts are rarely given as gifts, as they are made to fit. All this is used in office spaces and in our public organizations. Few unique gifts. Now they are actively donating various food products.”

According to the Zarplata.Ru research center, half of employers spend from 500 rubles. up to 1 thousand rubles for one corporate gift. Another third allocate up to 2 thousand rubles for such expenses.

At the same time, about a third of employees are waiting for certificates as gifts for stores or marketplaces, and a fifth of respondents would like to receive sweets. But nine out of 10 Russians would prefer a cash bonus.
