The Hungarian airline Wizz Air yesterday, June 28, bought from Airbus the A321neo liner, which was assembled at a factory in Tianjin in northern China. The aircraft manufacturer sold a Chinese-assembled aircraft to a customer from Europe for the first time, the agency reports. Xinhua.
The Airbus Aircraft Delivery Center in Tianjin called the deal a “major milestone” for the company. General manager Christoph Schrempp said the center is ramping up assembly capacity amid China’s rapid economic recovery to meet “the demand of more international customers.”
The A321neo is the largest aircraft in the Airbus A320 family and can carry up to 244 passengers. Airbus’ production facility in Tianjin was launched in 2008, the company’s first complete assembly line located outside of Europe. For 14 years, the company has produced 600 liners of the A320 series.
At the end of 2022, Airbus revenue amounted to €58.7 billion, up 13% from a year earlier, and net income of €4.2 billion, up 1% from 2021. The company delivered 661 aircraft to customers, which is 8% more than a year earlier. Airbus has scheduled delivery of 720 aircraft for 2023.
