Thanks to record orders from Indian airlines for the delivery of 750 aircraft in June, Airbus reported 1,044 new orders in the first half of the year. According to the agency Reuters, during the same period, 316 aircraft were delivered under previous contracts. According to the results of the whole year, Airbus plans to deliver 720 aircraft to customers.
Indian carriers IndiGo and Air India will receive 500 and 250 aircraft respectively. The order was placed at the Paris Air Show last month. A year earlier, Airbus had just 259 orders in the first half of the year, and in those six months the manufacturer delivered 297 aircraft to customers. Airbus’ most popular model right now is the A321neo, with 5,163 orders received since launch. Prior to this, the A320ceo was in the greatest demand.
The main competitor of the European manufacturer – the American company Boeing – has not yet published data on orders and deliveries for the first half of the year. However, the figures are also expected to be higher than last year, as at the Paris Air Show Boeing also received an order from the Indian Air India, albeit in a smaller volume – for 220 aircraft. In the first five months of the year, Boeing received an order for 127 aircraft (this does not include June and the Indian order) and delivered 206 aircraft to customers.
Airbus and Boeing will release their full half-year financials on July 26.
