Airbus overtakes Boeing in aircraft deliveries for the fourth time in a row

On Tuesday, January 10, the two largest aircraft manufacturers in the world, Airbus and Boeing, published data on aircraft deliveries for 2022. Although Boeing has ramped up deliveries from a few bad years before, Airbus outperformed the competitor in terms of aircraft deliveries for the fourth straight year.
Boeing deliveries rose 41% to 480 aircraft. During the year, the company received orders for the supply of 774 aircraft. Airbus deliveries did not increase as much – given that the company did not have such failures in the number of aircraft in previous years as Boeing did, by 8%, to 661 aircraft. In 2022, Airbus received orders for 820 aircraft (initially, their number was even more significant – almost 1.1 thousand, but some of the orders were eventually canceled). Both Boeing and Airbus deliveries were negatively impacted last year by supply chain issues.
Boeing deliveries in 2020 were minimal for 43 years due to the suspension of the 737 MAX and 787 Dreamliner aircraft. Recovery began in 2021 and continued into 2022. Nevertheless, Boeing continues to lag behind Airbus. This is due, among other things, to the failures of the American company in China. U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo said back in 2021 that Chinese authorities were keeping local airlines from buying Boeing planes “for tens of billions of dollars.” In October, Dave Calhoun, CEO of the company, noted that he did not yet see signs of positive changes in this regard in China.
