Airbus and Voyager Space set up a joint venture to build a space station to replace the ISS

Today, August 2, the military space division of the Airbus concern – Airbus Defense and Space – and the American space company Voyager Space Deal on the creation of Starlab, a joint venture for the construction of the orbital station of the same name. The new company will develop the design, construction and operation of the station, which should replace the International Space Station (ISS) in the future. The life of the ISS should end quite soon: in April, the countries participating in the ISS program declaredthat are going to use it until 2030.
The Starlab project was launched in 2021 by Voyager Space, as well as by Lockheed Martin and Nanoracks. NASA then allocated $ 160 million for the creation of the station. In January of this year, it became known that Airbus would provide technical support to the project. Now, the participation of the aerospace corporation in Starlab is expanding. In accordance with the agreement, Starlab is a joint American-European project, and the share of American companies in it must be at least 51%. The financial terms of the agreement, as well as specific shares of different companies in the joint venture, were not disclosed. The exact timing of the launch of Starlab is also unknown, in January 2028 was indicated as the earliest date.
