Three years after crossing the Channel perched on his Flyboard, the French inventor Franky Zapata presents the JetRacer, a “flying car” with vertical take-off. The machine, powered by ten small kerosene-powered reactors, has a single seated pilot. Half-car, half-helicopter, the JetRacer could travel at 250 km/hour, with a range of 40 minutes. Franky Zapata has already tested his flying car. The former Jet-ski champion rents “its maneuverability, easy handling and a high level of security, thanks to the redundancy of critical systems». Built on a modular chassis, the JetRacer can be declined in several versions depending on the target markets: civil, military and leisure. It can also be piloted remotely, like a drone. The Zapata company is building two other machines, which will take part in a test campaign in the United States, to which it invites all those who dream of “becoming the pioneers of the mobility of the future” to apply on its site. After a selection, 25 participants will be selected. The company is working on an electric hybrid version, in order to reduce fuel consumption and its CO2 emissions.

JetRacer is the latest example of flying taxi projects and other E-Vtol (electric vertical take-off vehicles) to invent a new urban air mobility. A market that could weigh 10 billion dollars by 2030, according to several studies. Alongside the start-ups (Volocopter, Lilium, Ascendance, etc.), Boeing is in the race, via the start-up Wisk, as well as Airbus, with the CityAirbus, which is due to enter service in 2025.
