Aeroflot Group increased passenger traffic in May by 35.9%

Group “Aeroflot“(airlines”Aeroflot”, “Russia” and “Victory”) in May increased passenger traffic by 35.9% in annual terms, to 3.7 million passengers. Compared to May 2021, passenger traffic increased by 3.9%, reported on the carrier’s website.

In April, the group carried 3.4 million passengers (+55% compared to April 2022), in March – 3 million passengers. 3 million passengers were transported on domestic routes in May, which is 18.4% more than in May 2022. Passenger turnover increased by 44.9%, the percentage of passenger seat occupancy increased by 2.4 p.p. %.

Aeroflot airline transported 1.98 million people in May, which is 55.2% higher than in May last year. Of these, 1.4 million passengers (+22.5%) were transported on domestic routes, and 0.57 million on international routes, which is 4.5 times higher than last year. For five months, the company’s passenger traffic amounted to 8.6 million people (+44.8% yoy).

The forecast for the passenger traffic of Russian airlines for the whole of 2023 is 101 million passengers, Minister of Transport Vitaly Savelyev said at the end of March. Of these, 81.9 million are domestic passenger traffic, i.e. the figure is expected to increase by 5.4% compared to 2022, but will decrease by 6.4% compared to 2021.

The fact that the number of passengers carried in 2023 will depend directly on how much subsidies airlines receive, previously spoke experts interviewed by Vedomosti. In 2022, Russian airlines transported a total of 95 million people (-14% by 2021).
