“Aeroflot» expects to complete insurance settlement with foreign lessors for foreign-made aircraft by the end of the year. About this in interview Vedomosti was told by the general director of the airline, Sergei Aleksandrovsky. Also, according to him, the number of aircraft for which the insurance settlement will be completed is increasing from 47 to 61. “These are long-haul and medium-haul aircraft of the group’s airlines – Aeroflot itself, Rossiya, and Pobeda. In total, there are now 102 deregistered (from foreign jurisdictions – Vedomosti) aircraft, which creates a certain comfort for us in the face of current restrictions on international flights,” he said. The top manager added that “the process itself is complexly structured.”
Because of the special operation in Ukraine, the US, the EU, the UK and a number of other countries imposed sanctions on the Russian aviation industry. They banned the supply of new aircraft and components for all Western-made aircraft to Russia, and aircraft repair and maintenance services were also banned. In addition, by the end of March 2022, European lessors had to terminate all relations with Russian carriers, claiming their aircraft.
