Aeroflot (MOEX: AFLT) after successful testing, allowed the animal to be transported in the adjacent passenger seat in the aircraft cabin. The new service is available on the airline’s own flights, as well as on flights of its subsidiary Rossiya, operated under the code SU, the statement says. press release carrier.

A passenger can transport a container with an animal or bird in the next seat in any class of service: economy, comfort, business. An additional seat is paid at the same rate as for an adult passenger. The weight of the container together with the animal cannot exceed 15 kg. In economy and comfort classes, the maximum dimensions of a rigid container are 50x30x30 cm, semi-rigid – no more than 50x32x30 cm. In business class – 50x40x30 cm and 50x40x40 cm.

The container is only allowed to be placed on the seats near the window; the pet must remain in the carrier during the entire flight. At the same time, it should allow the animal or bird to stand up to its full height and turn around itself. It is also necessary to have a special handle or loop so that the container can be tightly secured with a seat belt.

“The new service was tested for three months. The results showed that it is in demand among owners of small animals and birds—more than 900 pets were transported during this time,” the airline added.

In 2019 a scandal erupted after an Aeroflot passenger carried a cat in the cabin whose weight was 2 kg exceeding the permissible limit. The airline considered the violations committed by the man to be gross, excluded him from the loyalty program, and also canceled all the bonus miles he had accumulated. As the passenger himself said, the scales at the airport showed that his cat Victor “had eaten up to 10 kg, which is unacceptable for transportation in the cabin,” while according to Aeroflot rules, to be placed in the cabin, the animal must weigh up to 8 kg along with transportation, otherwise it must be carried in the luggage compartment. The man feared that “the cat wouldn’t make it 8 hours in luggage alive” from Moscow to Vladivostok, so he decided to secretly take it on the plane. After this Passenger Association suggested introduce uniform standards for the transportation of animals on airplanes in Russia.

About the financial statements of the carrier – in the publication “Kommersant” “Aeroflot was helped by foreign countries”.
