Hollywood stars want to use the DNA test to unravel the family secret

Hollywood star Matthew McConaughey claims that actor Woody Harrelson could be his half-brother. According to the artist, he and his True Detective co-star “did a bit of math” after his mother admitted she knew Harrelson’s father.

Matthew McConaughey says True Detective co-star and close friend Woody Harrelson is considering having a DNA test after realizing they may be brothers.

According to The Guardian, speaking on Kelly Ripa’s “Let’s Talk Behind the Scenes” podcast, McConaughey said both actors learned from his mother that she was a close acquaintance of Harrelson’s father.

“You know where I start and where he ends, and where he starts and I end, has always been like a blurry line,” says McConaughey, 53. “And that’s part of our friendship, right?” My kids call him Uncle Woody. His children call me Uncle Matthew. And you see our photos, and my family thinks that in many of the photos he is me. His family thinks that in many of the photographs I am him. A few years ago in Greece we sat and talked about how close we and our families are. And my mom is there, and she says, “Woody, I knew your dad.” Everyone knew about the ellipses that my mother left after the word “knew.” It was a loaded Z-N-A-L-A.”

McConaughey said the comment prompted the two actors to investigate their family stories. “We continued to figure out what this word “knew” meant, made some calculations and found out that the father [Харрельсона] was on vacation at the same time my mum and dad got divorced for the second time. In addition, there are possible receipts and places in west Texas where there could be a date, or a meeting, or a moment of “realization.”

Harrelson’s father, Charles, was a contract killer who was first convicted in 1960 of armed robbery. He was imprisoned in 1973 for murder and released five years later for good behaviour. In 1981, he was sentenced to two life terms for the murder of a district judge. He also claimed to have carried out the JFK assassination and died in prison in 2007.

In an interview with The Guardian in 2012, Harrelson revealed that he “got along pretty well with his father”, adding: “[Мои родители] parted young, he was not around too often.

Both McConaughey and Harrelson, 61, each have two brothers. The actors have appeared on screen together in the EDtv movie and True Detective series and are set to reunite on the Apple TV+ comedy show Brother From Another Mother, in which they play fictional versions of themselves living together on a Texas ranch. A release date for the show has yet to be set.

McConaughey revealed that he and Woody Harrelson are still discussing whether they will take a DNA test to confirm the connection between them.
