Access to Yandex sites is blocked in Latvia – Kommersant

In Latvia, access to sites associated with the Yandex company is blocked (MOEX: YNDX). In the future, access to Yandex Music will be blocked. The decision to block was made by the National Electronic Media Council of Latvia (NEPLP), government agency representative Ivars Abolins said on social network X. Yandex declined to comment.
On April 7, 2022, NEPLP blocked access in Latvia to 16 Russian Internet resources, including yandex.ru, mail.ru, the sites of the Kremlin, Moskovsky Komsomolets, Channel One, Vedomosti, REN TV, the State Duma, ” Interfax” and RBC. The decision was justified by the fact that the sites disseminate distorted and false information about events in the world, including the military operation on the territory of Ukraine. This, according to the department, could create a threat to the national security of Latvia.
Yandex did not agree with the NEPLP decision and filed an appeal with the Latvian court, which will consider the Russian company’s application on February 29, 2024.
