“Abi” seized the entire batch of sausage products with the genome of African swine fever

Meat food manufacturer Abi has seized an entire batch of sausage products contaminated with African swine fever (ASF), it said. “RIA News” company press service. Yesterday, September 19, Department of Veterinary Medicine of Yakutia reported about the discovery of the ASF virus genome in Stolichnaya ham of the Vyazanka brand (owned by Abi).

The Veterinary Department reported that the contaminated ham was produced at ZAO Starodvorskie Sausages in Vladimir. The Abi press service told the agency that the company conducted additional research on sausages made from other batches of raw materials from this manufacturer.

“A fragment of ASF DNA was found in certain items of a fully finished product produced by ZAO Starodvorskie Sausages. Despite the actual safety of the finished products that have undergone heat treatment, the Abi company decided to recall the entire batch of products,” the company said in a statement.

Abi added that Starodvorskie Sausages CJSC, together with state supervisory authorities, took measures to control the spread of ASF at all facilities. The company noted that the batch of raw pork in which the ASF genome was detected was isolated and did not enter production.

The Abi press service stated that the company also analyzed the path of the finished product from the warehouse to customers, the customers who purchased contaminated products were identified, and they were removed from their warehouses. In addition, the company took samples of finished products and swabs from the production premises of Starodvorskie Sausages CJSC. According to the results of testing for ASF DNA, the plague was not found in the samples, the press service claims.

In a press release yesterday, the Yakut veterinary department stated that Vyazanka ham from the contaminated batch arrived in Aldansky, Lensky, Neryungrinsky, Mirny districts and the city of Yakutsk for sale from the Novosibirsk and Vladimir regions. Of the 16 samples taken by veterinarians, ASF was found in two.

Back on September 13, the press service of “Abi” reportedthat on September 6, employees of the company’s quality department found the ASF genome in the pork raw materials of one of the suppliers. Abi stated that two refrigerated trucks with raw materials were sealed. Then the company noted that the results of studies of pork products at Abi warehouses in the Vladimir, Kostroma and Ivanovo regions were negative.
