At the plant “NPO Spetsmaterialov” (which develops and manufactures personal armor protection for the Russian army) in St. Petersburg, a workshop was launched in test mode with the first production line in Russia for the production of high-molecular polyethylene. About it reported press service of the legislature of the city.
Speaker of the ZAKS Alexander Belsky, who was present at the opening of the production, noted that the workshop will strengthen the defense capability of Russia and create additional conditions for the development of St. Petersburg.
“You ensure the safety of our guys who are on the front line. Opening a new line in these difficult, difficult times is a big deal. Now the city is consistently taking steps to ensure 100% localization of such industries in Russia,” said Mr. Belsky.
According to Kirill Soloveychik, Chairman of the St. Petersburg Committee for Industrial Policy, Innovation and Trade, over the past three years, the city has formed a basic set of broad measures to support industrial enterprises. Among such measures, Mr. Soloveichik named assistance in the provision of land plots, the allocation of funding for the purchase of equipment and tax incentives.
Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) is a thermoplastic polymer suitable for extreme operating conditions. Can act as a substitute for steel, bronze, polyamide, fluoroplast. UHMWPE and threads based on it are also needed for body armor and military helmets.
