A student from Uzbekistan bought the rights to his story from Stephen King for $1

Writer Stephen King sold the rights to his short story “The Man Who Didn’t Shake Hands” to Gulnara Ivanova, a student at VGIK in Uzbekistan, for $1. The film, shot by a girl based on the book, became the winner at the Nitiin International Film Festival in Malaysia.

The story “The Man Who Didn’t Shake Hands” was published in 1985 in Stephen King’s The Skeleton Crew. It is about the character Henry Brower who refuses to shake hands with people as everyone he touches dies.
In 2020 Stephen King sold rights to the film adaptation of the story “The Woman in the Room” by a 16-year-old schoolgirl from Tomsk for $1. According to the plot of the Russian short film based on the story, the main character, pianist Johnny, has to euthanize his terminally ill mother.
