The painting, painted by members of The Beatles during a concert tour in Japan, was sold at auction at Christie’s auction house. The cost of the lot was $1.74 million, a Japanese newspaper reported. Yomiuri.
The auction took place on February 1. The painting measures 54 cm in height and 78 cm in width and is made in the style of abstractionism. The musicians painted it in watercolors on traditional Japanese washi paper during breaks between concerts in Tokyo in the summer of 1966. The painting initially had no title, but later became known as “Images of a Woman.”
As the publication clarifies, for security reasons, the members of the rock band in those days, during their free time from concerts, could rarely leave the hotel, which is why they spent time painting the picture. According to Christie’s, this is the only painting in which all four members of The Beatles took part.
Christie’s will begin a series of auctions on February 21 of Sir Elton John, who put up for sale about 900 objects and works of art from his former penthouse in Atlanta. Total sales are estimated at $10 million.
