A virtual cellular operator (MVNO) for servicing state bodies can be created on the basis of the ERA-GLONASS accident information system. The newspaper reported “News” with reference to a source in one of the government agencies.
According to the publication, the project is under discussion. When the new telecom operator will be launched is still unknown. The negotiations involve GLONASS JSC (ERA-GLONASS operator) and Russian communications companies, including Rostelecom. In addition, tests are being carried out to connect civil servants’ telephones to the system, Internet access and voice communication capabilities.
According to one of Izvestia’s sources, there is a request for such services in the authorities. “ERA-GLONASS transmits emergency signals through the networks of all four federal telecom operators, and chooses the one with the best signal in this particular place,” he said.
Information about the creation of the operator was confirmed by a source of Izvestia, close to one of the operators. The newspaper sent a request to the Ministry of Digital Transformation, Rostelecom declined to comment.
