On the territory of Baikal International Airport in Ulan-Ude, it is planned to build a new terminal complex of domestic airlines. As reported press office of the Government of Russia, the facility will be commissioned in September 2024, the base for the terminal foundation has already been prepared, work is underway to lay engineering networks.
“The capacity will increase to 400 people for departure and 500 for arrival, while today it is 200 and 250 passengers, respectively. The complex will be able to serve up to 1 million passengers a year. The current airport building will be fully equipped for international flights,” the government’s press service said in a statement.
Baikal Airport is included in the program of subsidized air transportation on socially significant routes of the Far Eastern Federal District. The air hub operates regular flights to 15 destinations: Blagoveshchensk, Vladivostok, Irkutsk, Krasnoyarsk, Kyzyl, Moscow, Nizhneangarsk, Novosibirsk, Taksimo, Tomsk, Ulaanbaatar, Khabarovsk, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Yakutsk, as well as the village of Khuzhir (on Olkhon Island in Baikal).
