A monument to Soviet poet Rasul Gamzatov was erected at the University of Tehran

A monument to the Avar Soviet poet Rasul Gamzatov (1923-2003) was erected at the Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported. According to the agency, a delegation from Dagestan took part in the opening ceremony of the monument, including the daughter of the poet Salihat Gamzatova.
The Russian delegation also included the rector of the Dagestan State University (DSU) Murtazali Rabadanov and the head of the Center for Iranian Studies of the DSU Nuri Mamed-zade, as well as the head of Rossotrudnichestvo in Iran Liliya Votinova and employees of the Russian Embassy in Tehran.
During the opening ceremony, Russian schoolchildren read poems by the poet, and also presented a painting by an Iranian artist, based on the works of Rasul Gamzatov.
RIA Novosti notes that the opening of the monument was a response to the opening of a monument to the Persian poet Hafiz at DSU. As part of the ceremony, the universities entered into a cooperation agreement in several areas, including the exchange of teachers and students.
