“I couldn’t even eat half a banana.”
The creator and long-time director of the Jewish theater “Shalom”, Alexander Levenbuk, died at the age of 91.
Only two years ago, Alexander Semenovich left the Shalom Theater, which he created in 1988. In the summer, I celebrated my 90th birthday with friends and family.
– I talked to him yesterday. “He was at home,” Nikolai Tamrazov, a friend of the late director, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation, told MK. – Alik told me that he didn’t feel very well, so he went to the clinic. It’s good that he was with the driver, because when he got out of the car and walked a few steps, he fell. I couldn’t get up on my own. The driver ran to the clinic for help, but they did not leave him at the clinic, but sent him home. When we talked to him in the evening, I didn’t like his voice, he was somehow hoarse. He complained that he couldn’t eat. “Can you imagine, I couldn’t eat half a banana.” And in the morning I found out that he died that night.
Let me remind you that Alexander Levenbuk, a graduate of the 1st Medical Institute, was a bright figure. Leaving the career of a doctor, he became a comedian and performed a lot on stage in a duet with Alexander Lifshits. More than one generation of Soviet children grew up watching the popular radio program “Baby Monitor,” which the duo did for many years together with Nikolai Litvinov on All-Union Radio. The cheerful trio helped schoolchildren master mathematics, physics, and literature in a humorous manner. Well, the pinnacle of his career was the Jewish theater “Shalom,” which he created and led for 33 years.
