The first stage of hearings on Rosatom’s claims against the Finnish Fennovoima, which abandoned the joint Hanhikivi nuclear power plant project, took place in a London court. The court found Finland’s actions “unfounded and politically motivated,” said Rosatom General Director Alexei Likhachev at a meeting of the United Russia presidium.

“The London court found the actions of our Finnish partners to be unfounded and politically motivated. Which gives us the opportunity to continue legal proceedings regarding the specific material damage that this politically motivated decision brought us,” says Mr. Likhachev (quoted by Interfax).

Hanhikivi-1 NPP is an unrealized single-unit nuclear power plant project in Finland. The government of the country received an application for the construction of the station in 2015. In May 2022, Finnish Fennovoima terminated contract, citing “significant delays” on the part of Rosatom, as well as the conflict in Ukraine. Rosatom believes that Finland had no grounds for such a decision. In the same year, Fennovoima demanded €1.7 billion from the Russian side, Rosatom filed counterclaims for €3 billion, as well as demanded repay the loan for €920.5 million.
