A committee of the Bulgarian Parliament called for lifting the ban on the import of Ukrainian grain

The relevant committee of the Bulgarian parliament recommended that the government abandon the ban on the import of Ukrainian grain, which is due to expire on September 15, reports Euroactiv. The committee made this decision the day before at an extraordinary meeting; ten committee members were in support, four were against, and two abstained. During the discussion, industry organizations condemned the decision, saying they were “shocked” by it. Now the issue should be brought up for discussion at a plenary meeting of the Bulgarian government.
In the spring, Polish farmers staged protests against the supply of Ukrainian grain, explaining that local enterprises were losing profits because of this. In April, the European Commission (EC) agreed with Poland to limit the export of agricultural products from Ukraine, but in the end only four types of grain crops (wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower) were banned. A ban on the import of Ukrainian grain crops was also introduced by Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, and Slovakia. Polish authorities refuse this measure don’t intend. President of Ukraine Zelensky threatened court when extending restrictions on grain imports.
