A collection of 1,500 personal belongings of British rock singer Freddie Mercury from his home in Kensington, London will be sold at Sothbey’s auction. Bidding will begin in August and will close on September 5, the musician’s 77th birthday. The owner of the collection is a close friend of rock musician Mary Austin. The Guardian.
“For many years now I have had the happiness and privilege of living surrounded by all those wonderful things that Freddie was looking for and loved so much. But years have passed and it is time to make the difficult decision to close this special chapter in my life,” Ms. Austin said. She will donate part of the proceeds from the sale of items to the Mercury Phoenix Trust and the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
According to the publication, the personal belongings of Mr. Mercury before being sold at auction will be exhibited in London, New York, Los Angeles and Hong Kong. The collection, in particular, includes stage costumes of the musician, handwritten lyrics, paintings and other items that he collected during his travels.
