The number of restaurants and bars in Russia increased by 3.5%, to more than 176,000 companies, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the Kontur.Focus automatic counterparty verification service. At the end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020, the number of catering organizations on average reached about 170 thousand people.

According to analysts, the largest share among catering organizations is occupied by cafes and restaurants – approximately 85% (about 149 thousand organizations). The rest are bars (9 thousand) and canteens (17.5 thousand).

Since the beginning of 2021, about 60 thousand catering companies have been liquidated. In 2022, on average, about 2.5 thousand organizations close every month, most often in Moscow, the Moscow region, the Krasnodar Territory, St. Petersburg and the Rostov Region.

At the same time, since the beginning of 2021, the number of new establishments has also grown: about 65 thousand companies have been registered. They appeared in the same regions where there were the most closures, clarified in “Kontur.Focus”.

Against the backdrop of the mobilization announced throughout Russia since September 21, Moscow residents have reduced their trips to restaurants. Last week, traffic in the capital’s establishments was 17% less than a week earlier, and 27% year-on-year. Some restaurateurs are talking about a more serious drawdown, up to 50%, due to the loss of guests who left the country.
