Politico: EU intends to lift the ban on the transportation of Russian fertilizers

The European Union (EU), as part of a new package of sanctions, plans to introduce a ceiling on prices for Russian oil, reports Politico with reference to sources. According to them, the mitigation of a number of sanctions is being considered, in particular, the lifting of the ban on the transportation of Russian fertilizers, cement and “other products”.

EU ambassadors today, September 28, will discuss new restrictions with the European Commission. Ukraine insists that the new package of sanctions also include an embargo on Russian gas and the nuclear industry. The EU and the US hope to introduce a mechanism to cap the price of Russian oil by December 5, when the EU embargo comes into effect.

In July, Russia and Ukraine, with the support of Turkey and the UN, concluded a “product deal”. It includes agreements on the export of Ukrainian grain and the promotion of Russian fertilizers and foodstuffs to world markets. In September, Vladimir Putin urged UN influence the EU to lift sanctions on Russian fertilizers. Forbes wrotethat Europe is facing a shortage of fertilizer due to rising gas prices.

On the development of the situation - in the material "Kommersant" "Europe stops producing fertilizers".
