A group of scientists discovered in a private collection outside Italy a previously unknown painting by Raphael, which depicts the Christian saint Mary Magdalene. This was announced during the international conference “Ideal Beauty – Raphael Santi’s Vision of Perfection” in Pergola, the agency reports. ANSA.
According to scientists, Raphael portrayed Chiara Francelli, the wife of his teacher Pietro Perugino, as a Christian saint. It is noted that the discovered painting was written on a poplar board measuring 46 cm by 34 cm in 1504.
A detailed publication about Raphael’s painting will appear in the scientific journal Open Science, Art and Science under the title “Raphael’s Magdalene, or When the Student Surpasses the Teacher,” ANSA reports.
