About 30 retail chains in 25 regions of Russia have joined the initiative to limit margins to no more than 5% for certain categories of socially important goods, reports say. FAS and the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
These categories include: dairy products, bakery products, sugar, borscht vegetables, poultry, chicken eggs, frozen fish, some fruits, baby food, hygiene products.
FAS will control the fulfillment of obligations. Viktor Yevtukhov, deputy head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, said that the system of voluntary limiting margins “is beneficial to all market participants.” According to him, it allows you to successfully fight for “visitor traffic and attract more buyers,” Interfax reports.
Previously, the markups were limited by federal chains, among them are Magnit, O’Key, X5 Retail and Auchan. The markup limitation mechanism assumes that retail chains voluntarily assume obligations to minimize markups on important goods. The retailer determines the specific positions in each category independently.
