In 2023, 10 Swed House stores, the Belarusian analogue of IKEA, may open in Moscow. About it informs TASS with reference to the President of the Union of Shopping Centers Bulat Shakirov.
“Our union signed a cooperation agreement with Swed House, which manufactures products similar to IKEA, in order to open 10 stores in Moscow with an area of up to 1 thousand square meters in 2023. m,” he said.
The number of stores is expected to increase to 50 in the coming years, Shakirov added. He noted that negotiations are also underway for Swed House to become a tenant of Mega shopping centers.
Swed House has factories in Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan and China. The company produces household goods, furniture and textiles. The assortment is similar to the products of IKEA, which left Russia, and some products are even cheaper than the Swedish retailer, Shakirov drew attention. He added that the union has already received more than 100 requests from shopping centers that are interested in hosting Swed House.
On March 4, 2022, IKEA temporarily closed stores in Russia amid a Russian special operation in Ukraine, logistical problems and sanctions. In mid-June, it became known that the company was looking for buyers for its four factories in Russia, as well as reducing staff and selling off the rest of the goods.
February 16 Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Viktor Evtukhov named buyers of three IKEA factories in Russia (two factories were merged into one, so the deal covered three factories). They were Slotex, a specialist in kitchen worktops and facades, and Luzales, a lumber manufacturer. The details of the deal were not specified.
