A temporary stop in oil exports from Iraqi Kurdistan due to a dispute between Baghdad and Ankara has affected the work of Gazprom and Rosneft, said Russian Consul General in Erbil Maxim Rubin. According to him, Russia is interested in resuming exports.
“Russian oil companies such as Gazprom and Rosneft are still operating in Kurdistan. Of course, the suspension of oil exports has affected the work of these companies, but they are still working, and they are still producing oil,” Mr. Rubin told Iraqi TV channel Rudaw (translation “Prime”).
Türkiye stopped exporting oil from the Kurdistan region of Iraq in the spring. The decision came after the International Court of Justice ordered Ankara to pay Baghdad $1.5 billion in compensation for exporting without its permission from 2014 to 2018. Türkiye agrees to resume exports only if Iraq refuses the demands. Ankara, in turn, demands $900 million in compensation from Baghdad.
