Recall of Philips respirators: opening of a preliminary investigation

The Paris prosecutor’s office has opened a preliminary investigation into the recall of respirators from Dutch medical device manufacturer Philips, reported Thursday, September 8. France info.
In 2021, Philips has issued a recall international supplier of ventilators and sleep apnea therapy devices due to a piece of sound-absorbing foam which, when degraded, would cause headaches, asthma, coughs and even cancer.
There were 370,000 devices in France when they were recalled and only a third of them were replaced by Philips, explains Franceinfo.
According to the National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products (ANSM), there is no evidence of a carcinogenic risk given the available data. As for pulmonologists, they recommend for the moment that patients continue their treatment with these respirators, until they are repaired or replaced.
