UN: World food prices fall for 10th month in a row

World food prices show a fall for the tenth month in a row; in January of this year, compared to December 2022, they fell by 0.8%. About it informs Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
The FAO Food Price Index averaged 131.2 in January, down 0.8% from its December level and 17.9% from its March 2022 peak, the organization said in a report.
In January, the value of the FAO Cereal Price Index remained almost unchanged, only 0.1% higher than in December and 4.8% higher than the same period last year.
Experts note that world wheat prices fell by 2.5%, as production volumes in Australia and Russia were higher than expected. World prices for corn rose slightly, prices for rice rose by 6.2% at once compared to the December level.
In January, the value of the FAO price index for vegetable oils decreased by 2.9%, for dairy products – by 1.4%, for meat – by 0.1%, for sugar – by 1.1%.
