Russia will not use nuclear weapons during a special operation in Ukraine, declared Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview with the German TV channel Bild TV.
“I don’t believe that he [президент РФ Владимир Путин] use this weapon. I don’t think the world will allow him to use this weapon,” Zelensky stressed.
During his address to citizens on the issues of referendums in the territories of the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics (LPR and DPR), Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, Putin said that Western countries had launched “nuclear blackmail”, calling on Kyiv to transfer hostilities to the territory of Russia.
At the same time, the head of state noted that in the event of a threat to the territorial integrity of the country, all available means of protection would be used. He emphasized that “this is not a bluff.” He promised that “the territorial integrity of our homeland, our independence and freedom will be ensured.”
In response, the United States said that they are serious about Putin’s words about nuclear weapons. For Russia, the use of nuclear weapons will have consequences and will affect the country’s position on the world stage, said John Kirby, coordinator for strategic communications at the White House National Security Council.
