The plane from Russia will fly daily to Northern Cyprus with a transfer in Antalya. The flights are scheduled to start in November, according to the Turkish newspaper Yeni Safak. Yesterday, September 22, North Cypriot President Ersin Tatar, in an interview with RIA Novosti, announced that a private Russian company had applied for flights to Northern Cyprus.

“Details of flights from Russia to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) are becoming clearer. Flights from Moscow to Ercan Airport, which are planned with a transfer in Antalya, should begin in November. Flights on the Moscow-Antalya-TRNC line will be daily. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will be present on the first flight,” writes Yeni Safak.

Earlier, Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar did not name the Russian airline that had applied for flights to the TRNC. However, he added that several other companies are considering the possibility of flights to the republic.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he had discussed with Russian President Vladimir Putin possible flights between Russia and Northern Cyprus.

On September 20, CNN Turk reported on the launch of direct flights between the Russian Federation and the TRNC. Russian embassy refuted this information, stating that “Russia’s position on the Cyprus settlement has not changed.”

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is an unrecognized state by the international community. Only Turkey considers this country independent. At the moment, Russians can visit Northern Cyprus through the Republic of Cyprus, but only if they have a multiple-entry Schengen visa or a Cypriot pro-visa.
