Windows 11 version 23H2 will natively support full-fledged work with archives of popular formats. About it Microsoft said at a conference for developers.

The operating system will be able to open 7z, RAR, TAR, GZ and other archives. The innovation will be available to users in September 2023.

In 2024, Windows 11 will not only open archives in these formats, but also archive files into these containers. Currently, to open archived files (except ZIP), additional software is required.

The company announced a major update to Windows 11 at a presentation Microsoft Build 2023 May 23rd. Other innovations include a visually updated File Explorer, a VPN connection icon, and peripheral backlight control.

Version 23H2 is scheduled for release in September 2023. Gradually, innovations will appear in the Windows beta channels – this tool is used by developers to notify Microsoft of possible errors.
