How to apply for a passport: methods and terms

Today, you can apply for a passport in two ways - through multifunctional centers and through the State Services portal, but with a subsequent visit to the MFC.

If you come to the MFC, you will need to provide two photographs sized 35 by 45 mm, a civil passport and data from the work book for the last ten years. Then, in the old manner, you will stand in line, however, now it is electronic, with the numbers displayed on the scoreboard. After waiting for it, pay the state duty, manually fill out a three-page application, give all the documents to the operator and go home. The average waiting period for a passport is three weeks.

When the passport is ready, you will receive an SMS, but a phone call about readiness is also possible. If the deadline has passed, but there is no news, just go to the MFC.

If you apply for a passport through the State Services portal, you will need to register on it (if you have not managed to do this yet), get an account, send a photo and copies of documents in electronic form and fill out a questionnaire on the website. Men aged 18 to 27 are required to present a military ID.

It is important that on the site you can pay the state duty with a 30 percent discount. You can also choose to issue a regular passport for a period of 5 years or a biometric passport of a new sample for a period of 10 years. You can also apply for a new generation passport for children under 14 years old and citizens under 18 years old. Clarification: when the application is approved, you will receive a message that you need to pay a fee.

But the process will not end there - when your application is checked, you will have to visit the department at the MFC, you can also sign up there through the State Services. They will check your documents with the originals and take a picture of you. You will also have to wait for a passport for about three weeks.

The issuance of a passport is carried out at the department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs or its representative office. But if you have to draw up a document in a locality where you do not have a permanent residence permit, this process can drag on for a period of one to three months.

Your passport must be valid, i.e. not expired, with a good photo at the age of 20 or 45. Children under 14 years of age can enter on a birth certificate, which has a mark of Russian citizenship.

But you should know that medical care in these countries is paid, assistance is provided free of charge only in emergency cases, so it is better to have international medical insurance with you. If you are traveling by car, you will have to fill out a customs declaration for it.
