Vladimir chess players win the VHZ Cup tournament

A blitz tournament for the VKhZ Cup was held, organized by the Vladimir Chemical Plant (VKhZ) and the Vladimir Region Chess and Checkers Federation (VRCF) and dedicated to the opening of a new VKhZ workshop for the production of cable plastics.

The event took place on September 14, 2024, at the Vladimir Youth Culture House. The venue was not chosen by chance - the VKhZ Culture House was previously located in this building.

The competitions were held in individual and team standings - teams were formed from three people representing one organization. The tournament brought together 60 of the strongest chess players from Vladimir, Kovrov, Kolchugino, Murom, Yuryev-Polsky, Kamenskovo, Raduzhny, Sobinka and the Moscow region. 14 enterprises and organizations put up their teams.

The age of the participants once again proved that chess is for all ages. The championship was attended by very young chess players (the youngest participant, Timofey Shandor from Vladimir, who played for the VKhZ team, was seven years old), as well as athletes of "silver" and "golden" age (the most experienced, Viktor Vladimirovich Shinkorenko, a veteran of the Vladimir Elektropribor plant, was 87 years old).

The chief judge of the competition was the sports judge of the all-Russian category, international arbiter Pavel Sharkov (Kolchugino). The honorary guest of the tournament was Georgy Nagibin, executive director of the Chess Federation of the Central Federal District.

The prize fund for the team tournament was 30 thousand rubles, and for the individual tournament - 10 thousand rubles. Part of the amount formed by the application fees was transferred to the charitable foundation "Akademya Zhizni", whose activities are aimed at the socialization, development and education of orphans.

In a fierce battle of wits, Yegor Arkhipov took first place in the individual championship, Stepan Orekhov took second, and Artemy Minakov took third. All three represented the Vladimir Youth Center.

In the team standings, the leader was the team of the Youth Center of Vladimir, silver went to sports school number 2 (Vladimir), bronze went to school number 23 (Vladimir). The Top 10 of the team standings included the team "Veterans Vladimir", "Agroprom Yuryev-Polsky", "Murom", "Kameshkovo Nadezhdy", "Kovrov", "Elektropribor", "Raduzhny". The awards to the winners were presented by Georgy Nagibin and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of PJSC "VKHZ" Dmitry Moskovets.

"This tournament is our contribution to the revival of the glorious sporting traditions of the Vladimir Chemical Plant. We hope that it will become an annual event and will contribute to the popularization of chess as a sport, as well as strengthening ties between various enterprises and organizations of Vladimir and the region," says Dmitry Moskovets.

"Chess is a unique sport that has virtually no limitations," says Sergei Solonets, president of the FSHVO. "It develops memory and stress resistance, teaches concentration, thinking several moves ahead and quickly changing tactics, thinking up new strategies and combinations, and also how to win and lose with dignity!"
