The mayor of Kyiv, ex-world boxing champion Ukrainian Vitali Klitschko called for preventing athletes from Russia and Belarus from participating in the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

According to Klitschko, in this appeal he is supported by “all athletes of Ukraine”, brother Volodymyr and the Olympic Committee of Ukraine. Addressing the IOC and personally to its head Thomas Bach, he urged to prevent any participation of athletes from Russia and Belarus “in the event that such a policy is continued by the leadership of their states.”

Earlier, IOC President Thomas Bach said that athletes from Russia and Belarus could compete at the Olympic Games in 2024 in a neutral status. The sports official acknowledged that their exclusion from the Games is not in line with the values ​​and mission of the Olympic Charter. Later, the IOC announced that the decision on the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in the 2024 Olympics had not yet been made.

The Summer Olympic Games in Paris will be held from July 26 to August 11. Previously, the possibility of a boycott of the Games was reported in Poland, Latvia and Ukraine.
