Vedomosti: Russia's public debt rose to 22.8 trillion rubles

In 2022, the amount of Russia’s internal and external debt increased from 20.9 trillion rubles. up to 22.8 trillion rubles, the newspaper reports Vedomosti with reference to a representative of the Ministry of Finance. According to data published on the website of the ministry, as of January 1, 2023, the volume of internal debt is 18.781 trillion rubles, external – 4.039 trillion rubles.

The cost of servicing the debt, said the source of the newspaper, reached 1.33 trillion rubles. (4% of all budget expenditures). In 2021, spending on public debt amounted to only 1.084 trillion rubles.

In December 2022, Vedomosti, citing a report by the Accounts Chamber reportedthat the cost of servicing Russia’s public debt exceeded 1.018 trillion rubles. By law on the federal budget for 2023-2025, the public debt of the Russian Federation will increase for three years in a row and in 2025 will reach 29.9 trillion rubles.
