US plans to appoint special envoy for Belarus

In the near future, the United States intends to appoint a special representative for Belarus, who will work with the opposition in the country. This information was provided by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

After the suspension of the work of the American embassy in Minsk in connection with the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine, the United States no longer has its representative in Belarus. Therefore, Washington is currently looking for a suitable candidate for this position.

US Ambassador Julie Fischer left her post in June 2022 after Lukashenka blocked the opportunity to serve as ambassador to Minsk.
