US base in northeastern Syria comes under fire

A US base in northeastern Syria has been hit by rockets after US air strikes targeted Iranian-backed groups the day before. About it informs The Hill, citing U.S. Central Command spokesman Major John Moore

The drone strike was carried out by groups linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on a coalition base near Hasaka in northeast Syria around 13:38 local time, according to the Pentagon.

“We are ready for scalable options in the face of any additional Iranian attacks. U.S. Central Command’s thoughts and prayers are with the family of our slain contractor, as well as with our wounded servicemen,” Gen. Michael Kurilla said.

According to him, American troops remain in Syria to ensure the final defeat of ISIS (“Islamic State”, banned in the Russian Federation), “which will benefit the security and stability not only of Syria, but of the entire region.”

In November 2022, the American military base Green Village in northeast Syria was attacked. Those responsible for the attack are unknown. According to the command, no one was killed or injured, the base was not damaged.

The United States and a number of other states intervened in the civil war in Syria in September 2014 under the pretext of fighting terrorist groups. Back in September 2018, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova noted that the United States was artificially prolonging the conflict and destabilizing the situation in the republic. The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the US authorities are trying to “get an excuse for maintaining an illegal armed presence on Syrian soil.” Currently, the Americans, among other things, are extracting oil on Syrian territory and selling it without having the appropriate permission from local authorities.
