Universities may change the mechanism for allocating budget places

Specialists from the Ministry of Education and Science have begun drafting a document on the distribution of state-funded places in universities.

It is assumed that the system of distribution of budget places in higher education institutions, on the one hand, will be formed in accordance with the current needs and demands of the labor market. On the other hand, the ministry will form budgetary quotas for universities based on the list of USE that graduates are going to choose to take. This means that if the “interest” of school graduates, for example, in physics falls and few schoolchildren choose this subject, and the region needs such specialists, the number of budget places with specialized “physics” will be increased.

By the way, this year, higher education institutions must submit their proposals to the Ministry of Education and Science on the distribution of admission targets this year, that is, state-funded places in universities, based on the admission targets previously allocated to them, by April 1. By May 1, the department will announce the KTsP. Then, within ten days, institutes and universities update this information on their websites.

Unfortunately, such a system can cause a negative response from applicants, since such a “late” distribution of admission control numbers will not allow children to choose those subjects in the USE with which they will have a better chance of entering the budget. Registration for the exam ended on February 1, and it is no longer possible to change the list of exams to be taken.
